HCPL’s Junior Book of the Month: Fuzzy Mud

fuzzy mudFuzzy Mud by Louis Sachar

Tamaya and Marshall have been walking to school together since elementary school, but when new kid and bully Chad comes to town and threatens to beat up Marshall on the way, the kids take a shortcut through the woods – the woods they have been forbidden to go through. Chad follows, but when he catches up to Marshall and starts to fight with him, Tamaya intervenes by throwing a handful of mud at him – strange mud that has a fuzzy texture and that the fallen leaves even seem to avoid.

Soon the school is in a panic, the authorities and the U.S. senate are involved, and what seemed like an innocuous hunk of fuzzy mud might affect the future of the world.

From the author of Holes and the Wayside School series, Fuzzy Mud is a middle grade eco-thriller will keep kids at the edge of their seats while teaching a lesson about the far reaching and unintended consequences that can occur when we mess with nature.
