Last Year by Robert Charles Wilson
September 1st was a memorable day for Jesse Cullum for two reasons. One was he lost his Oakleys – he really liked those sunglasses. And two was he saved President Ulysses S. Grant. In Last Year by Robert Charles Wilson, the technology exists to open corridors to alternative pasts, allowing present day citizens to be tourists in something approximating their own history. One such tourist trap exists in a version of late-19th century Ohio, where Jesse Cullum, a resident of the past, makes a good living working security. After saving Grant, opportunities open up, but to the future citizens he’ll always be a relic. When he falls in love with someone from the future, just as the passageway leading to his time is set to close forever, he is determined to find a way to follow her no matter what secrets he has to reveal.
Last Year by Robert Charles Wilson is available to reserve at the Haliburton County Public Library.
